Sometimes, as a transperson, it’s easy to feel left out, what with all this talk of GLB only ENDA, DOMA, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, etc. Today, thanks to the attentions of my friends at Focus on the Family Action and Colorado Family Action, I’m feeling truly loved and appreciated as “a man in a dress”. Isn’t it nice to finally be noticed!

Radio Ad Causes Anti-Discrimination Controversy
By Political Reporter Marshall Zelinger

COLORADO SPRINGS – An arm of Focus on the Family is fighting an anti-discrimination bill ready for Governor Bill Ritter’s signature. Senate Bill 200 will make discrimination based on sexual orientation illegal. It passed through both the House and the Senate earlier this year.
Focus on the Family Action and Colorado Family Action have produced a one-minute radio ad encouraging you to call the Governor and tell him to veto the bill.

This is a transcript of the radio ad:

“Mom…”

If the Colorado legislature has its way…

“A man in a dress came into the girl’s restroom at school today.”

We could all be dealing with a new type of predator.

“Honey, there was a man in the women’s showers at the gym today, and the management said it was, it was Colorado law.”

And instead of our kids worrying about class work, they’ll be worrying about who might be in the restroom with them.

“No way I’m going in there (school bell), I’d rather wait all day if a guy’s in there.”

Our children must be protected from predators, but if Governor Ritter won’t veto Senate Bill 200, all public restrooms, including those in our public schools, will be open to anyone of any sex.

Colorado’s Democrat-controlled legislature has already passed this bill, but Governor Ritter still has time to veto it. Call him now and ask him to protect our kids and veto SB 200. Call 303-866-2471. 303-866-2471.

it is so disgusting that they automatically label any trans person a predator, it seems as though they are the predators

2. Anarchopagan - May 23, 2008

Of course, the vast majority of child molestations are committed by heterosexuals. Trying to somehow connect the dots between pedophiles and transexuals is abyssmally ignorant.

But the same folks who think the earth is 5,000 years old will have no problem accepting this bit of stupidity as well.

I am under the distinct impression that Barney Frank, indirectly, gave them the idea for this ad. It sounds a lot like his rhetoric insisting on the phony version of ENDA he’s been peddling.

4. zythyra - May 23, 2008

Yes, their assertion that trans people are all predators is absurd… the percentage of heterosexual predators is considerably higher.

There are many horrible stereotypes of glbt people that still grace our Television & Radio waves – also on LOTS of blogs.

How many “funny” ads have you seen on TV where the joke is – Oops, I can’t kiss him, he’s a GUY, like ME!! That makes us look like fags. Ha Ha.

And, apropos of the recent Ca Supreme Court’s ruling on Same Sex marriage, I’ve seen a few very upsetting posts in basic run of the mill blogs.

Its seems the far right is playing the fear card big time in Colorado, same shite different day – lather, rinse, , repeat :

Transwomen are in far more danger in the men’s room from the testosterone laden , than any genetic female is ever endangered from a transswomen in the stall next to her, just trying to use the rest room for the purpose rest rooms are used for..

Also in the zelot hater phobes, deck of cards is how they (the religious right) are somehow the VICTIMS here, – such hogwash ! laughable in the face of it – but this bullshit gains traction, we gotta fight it , sentence by sentence , letter by letter..exhausting, yes. But hatred, ignorance un interupted – unfortunately lets it breed. Teh stupid is infectious.

They ‘re the dominating oppressive paradigm claiming they are victimized is just preposterous, besides they are armed to the teeth , with the stones they love to throw. Me thinks , we have more to fear from them, then they us. How many heretics has the LGBT community ever burned or stoned to death. Their casting themselves as the victims ought to be laughed at and its obnoxious too boot.

Yes, their assertion that they are somehow the victims, when they are actually the oppressors, is the most ridiculous part of their spin. Interesting how in all of their articles, they never, ever mention the issue of FTMs in the men’s room. Nor do they ever bother to consider the safety concerns of M2F, F2M or genderqueers in the men’s room…

It’s just a big scare tactic to raise money, and they don’t care if a few of us get queerbashed in the process…. grrrrrrrr.
